The VAM engine was built from 1982-1985. These engines have an "M" code on the engine ID plate, which consists of a sequential number for the various plants which may have produced engines, in this case "M" (for MEXICO) plant. The plate is located on the side of the block toward the front, on the oil filter side.

Details

The valve lifters in older Jeep engines undergo some of the highest pressures inside the engine as they ride on the camshaft and activate the push rods to open the valves. If they start to wear at the spot where they make contact with the camshaft, it can throw off the engines performance and power. When rebuilding your engine, get new Crown Automotive Valve Lifters and you will notice the gains that you get when the engine is put to the test.
