The pitman arm converts the rotary motion of the steering gear to the linear motion of the centerlink. When a vehicle has a suspension lift installed, the pitman arm changes its position in relation to the centerlink. A dropped pitman arm is designed to compensate for a vehicle's suspension lift to help maintain the factory feel at the steering wheel by eliminating bump steer and any potential interference with the steering components and the vehicle's chassis.
